Travel Adapter & Plug Type Calculator
Find the right travel adapter for your destination. Check plug type, voltage, and frequency — and whether your devices need a voltage converter.

World Plug Types
Type A (2 flat pins): USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan. Type B (2 flat + 1 round): USA, Canada. Type C (2 round pins): most of Europe, South America, Asia. Type D (3 round in triangle): India, Sri Lanka. Type E (2 round + socket hole): France, Belgium, Poland. Type F (2 round + side clips): Germany, Austria, Netherlands. Type G (3 rectangular): UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia. Type I (2/3 flat angled): Australia, New Zealand, China, Argentina. Type M (large 3 round): South Africa, India. T
Voltage and Frequency
The world uses two voltage systems: 110-127V (Americas, Japan, Taiwan) and 220-240V (most of the world). Frequency: 60 Hz (Americas) or 50 Hz (most of the world). Dual-voltage devices (100-240V): most modern laptops, phone chargers, camera chargers, and travel appliances are dual voltage — the adapter alone is sufficient, no converter needed. Check the device label or power brick: '100-240V 50/60Hz' means dual voltage. Single voltage devices: older devices, some hairdryers, electric shavers, and
Adapters vs Converters
Travel adapter: changes the physical plug shape only — no electrical conversion. Works fine with dual-voltage devices. Very lightweight, inexpensive. Voltage converter (transformer): actually changes the voltage — heavy and expensive. Required only for single-voltage devices travelling to a different voltage region. Frequency (50Hz vs 60Hz): most modern electronic devices tolerate both frequencies fine. Exceptions: motors and devices with timing circuits (some older electric clocks) may run fast
USB and Type C Charging
USB charging bypasses adapter concerns entirely: any USB charger rated for the destination voltage charges devices via USB-A or USB-C regardless of the destination. A dual-voltage USB-C charger (GaN recommended) with a travel adapter is the most versatile travel charging solution. USB-C Power Delivery: modern USB-C chargers support international voltage standards by design — check the label confirms 100-240V input. GaN (gallium nitride) chargers: significantly lighter and smaller than traditiona
