Calculating Points Value
Value per point (cpp) = (cash price − taxes and fees) / points used × 100. Example: flight costs £400 cash. Redemption costs 25,000 Avios + £60 taxes. cpp = (400 − 60) / 25,000 × 100 = 340/25,000 × 100 = 1.36p per Avios. Compare with typical Avios value: 0.8-1.0p economy, 1.5-2.0p+ business class. This redemption (1.36p) is above average for economy — a reasonable use of Avios. Good vs bad redemption: shopping redemptions, statement credits: typically 0.5p or less. Short economy flights: 0.7-1.0
